REC: DON’T TOUCH MY CORN! by farorange

If you’re in the mood for a pick-me-up, I recommend reading Don’t Touch My Corn by farorange. It’s a fun read that’ll leave you smiling and laughing to yourself.

You have your usual suspects for the humorous high school kingka versus common girl setup: a hot but 4D Choi Seunghyun and an exasperated “just want to live a quiet life (eating and selling corn)” Park Bom who has to deal with said hot 4D kingka.

When I was younger, I always thought comedies were easier to write compared to tragedies and the rest of the lot, but as time went by, I came to realize how hard it is to develop effective comedic timing, chemistry between characters, and good rapport during funny arguments (among other characteristics commonly found in comedies). You can find these in Don’t Touch My Corn as Bom tries to reason with an ever so hard to understand Seunghyun (one moment he’s pursuing her for revenge, the next he’s acting sweet and supportive).

SHOUT BOX…
I really feel old now, returning to soompi so many years later. The fanfic section has really changed, and everyone says you shouldn’t hang on to the past but I’m really honestly sad about how neglected the forum has become. I can’t ask old members to return, because people really do grow out of the forum. The people who I used to look up to are probably in their twenties trying to make something out of their talent. Soompi really is a great place for new writers because it’s so welcoming and is a home to so many talented people, it’s really breathtaking. I hope that in the future people will begin to branch out again, threads will become crazily active, and home starts feeling like home again. I have this strange love for soompi’s fanfic section because it was probably the place that really opened my eyes and heart to creative writing. I hope other people feel like this too. I really want to thank any of my readers, silent ones too, for being so loving. I also want to thank mods for being so faithful to the fanfic section and all those that are trying to keep the forum alive. Oh, and I really want to thank Jessa (babyroo) for being so loyal as a beta reader, a friend, and the girl that deals with all the weird coding that I’ve come to loathe.

I’ve started to update the library with fics from anirtak (the writer of Ethereal Pastels, Quintessential Tones), jyl, sleepii, angelfightrJ, s u n d a e _., sooji, fatsoko, Yui., and more ^^ There’ll be close to 100 more fics added to the library by the end of this week.

P.S. Since I’ll be updating the library differently now, I’m wondering if you guys have a preference on how I should “announce” updates — if I should list the names of writers like I did up there, or if I should list the titles of the added fics… It sounds rather trivial, but I don’t want to waste space on your computer screen so let me know what’d work for you.

In terms of how it affects my writing, I no longer have that desire to write such depressing struggling-love stories just because I simply don’t feel that way anymore. I write more about what I see and hear and feel. Lately, I’ve been aching to write something for the girls. My friend had introduced me to the right song (Lonely) and I’m really liking the sort of message that 2NE1 sends out: to be strong women confident in their own strength. Something that doesn’t center around finding a significant other. A fic might surface soon ;D

sleepii: Ahhh Fly to the Sky! During the time I was participating in the reading & writing of fics, there were a set of artists that were very popular: ShinHwa, DongBangShinGi, various actors/actresses from popular dramas at that time like HyunBin and of course, Fly to the Sky. With most of the groups, people tended to incorporate them all or one 1-3 of them as the main characters. Fly to the Sky was a setup that made it really easy to have two male leads. Either working together or against each other (most of the time), the duo was easily selected as the main characters due to their dynamics as two fairly different men in real life. It also made it very easy to pit them against each other with a girl in the middle (much like their music video for Condition of My Heart). From what I read, they were often both in the same stories somehow. An album, like Gravity, was a great fodder for storylines – it was so brooding, darker and more mature.

One Day My Heart Told Me...

Like book spines aligned on a shelf, certain fic titles have intrigued us to choose them over others.

Sometimes it’s the short but impacting title that shouts (or whispers) confidently to alert its presence. Sometimes it’s the long, flowy title that breezes by, forcing you to chase after it for a second read to make sure you understand its meaning. Sometimes it’s the bizarre or crude title that challenges you to NOT notice it (which of course, succeeds in baiting you against your will).

Whatever the case, each fic’s title becomes a branded memory—something you cherish and hold onto long after its last chapter. So my question for you is, what are some of your favorite fic titles? ;D

I’d like to dedicate this song Replay to this person/fic/character candyredhearts, my Yoong dongsaeng because she’s such an awesome and amazing writer and well..I believe Replay is important for Yoona xD
If I could spend a day with one character from a fic, it’d be Choi Minho from Dear Juliette because he’s helpful and kind, although seemingly a little…er..never mind xD
If any fic could be turned into a movie/drama, I’d like it to be Dear Juliette because its better than any story line of those idiotic idol dramas!
I <3 fics because its the only way to turn dreams into reality xD

“I started reading/contributing when HOT was being taken over by ShinHwa so I remember the fanfic world shifting as well. More ShinHwa fics started cropping up. I also remembered when DBSG fanfics started to take over. And when popping randomly by the soompi forums now, no ShinHwa fics can be found! It’s interesting how preferences for people change as actual group popularity changes. During the time I was active, there was also a lot of very literary and very well written stories were “the thing”. I hope that hasn’t changed ;D” —sleepii
