MAN ON THE STREET: MELLYBEAN → timevault.wordpress.com

SHOUT BOX…
You know, nothing beats good writing. You can write the most cliche thing in the world, and I will just gobble it up because of writing quality. Some writers are fantastic and have well-deserved legions of fans. For the writers, however, who don’t get a lot of readers but are just simply brilliant, I say: Don’t give up. There are fics out there who will have a bazillion readers (read: Twilight) because they are riding a trend (a desired coupling…or a popular show, etc.) but may have mediocre writing, and you may feel unsupported because you have a few readers. Just keep writing. Because you love it. Don’t compromise for the readers. Be true to yourself and write what you want… [excerpt]

JIEUN'S INTERVIEW - PART II [final] → timevault.wordpress.com

jieun: I think the most touching message I ever received while I was a fanfic writer was a reader who had been reading my stuff for years PM’ed me out of the blue one day and thanked me. She thanked me for taking fanfics seriouslyenough to not make it a joke. That when she asked herself why she even read online stuff, she’d remember my stories and realize it wasn’t a bunch of people joking around posting up half assed attempts just to get attention. And that she was glad I was back, and that my stories matter to her. And she thought I should know. She’d never replied to my stuff before then. She’d been a silent reader (gasp, the evil silent reader) for 10 years and her one comment was worth any number of comments she could have left me before.

TOP 5…
- FAVORITE FICS: My ultimate favorite fanfic of all time would have to be ‘Black Coffee Talk’ by Kami. I love the way she put art into the fanfic as well as Hwanhee [my guilty pleasure]. Other favorites of mine include, ‘Kiss the Sky’ by Kami, ‘Habits’ and ‘Jaded’ by linkinpark and I can’t seem to pick between xerces’ fanfics [because they’re so beautifully written] or val’s [because they were the first fanfics I ever read.]

YO! - a commentary → timevault.wordpress.com

I started out as a Shinhwa fan so perhaps unsurprisingly, Yo! happens to be my all time favorite MV. I’ll never forget Minwoo’s blonde hair, his motorcycle, and the epic ending. I loved his bond with Eric (and Eric’s solo shots!) And of course, the romance!!! Bomi’s angst, her tough family situation, the classroom scene… This MV’s storyline completes my fangirly-fanficcy heart (along with All Your Dreams.) I’ve memorized the MV’s by heart but I could still rewatch them a zillion times and not tire of them because they are so epic and inspiring. They gave us gang fights, first love/high school romances, dance battles, etc. etc. [excerpt - click link for more]

introducing: man on the street interviews!

Man on the Street interviews are based off of the impromptu interview format used by the news media. These are fun, short (but always enlightening) interviews with fanficcers like yourself. (;

We’ll be kicking off the Man on the Street series with Kou (fatsoko). **Click here for the interview.

Thanks for following the blog! Hope you’ll enjoy this new format (it’ll be interwoven with long form interviews and any other posts on this blog.) As always, feedback is always appreciated ^^ Feel free to post any thoughts/comments in this entry or via the feed back page.

All the best,

fancracked

excerpt: THAO
  • fancracked: The talk of generation comparisons sounds like it's a constant “generation vs generation” debacle. As someone who's seen and been on both sides so to say, what do you make of all of this?
  • thao: hmmmm What do I think of it? I think it's all good. I mean, I know there are a lot of writers who've been writing for a while who're experiencing all these changes and don't like them, but that's life isn't it? Nothing is ever really consistent and changes are always bound to happen. It's kind of like a cycle to me--a cycle that is inevitable. It's just a matter of time until a new set of writers come in and set the trends and whatever in the fic world. Although there will always be disagreements and conflicts because of these differences between the two generations, I feel like it's a sort of equilibrium because let's face it, (Soompi) fanfics will never reach 'utopia.' What we really have though, is pretty healthy. All these conflicts and differences really propel writers to think more and I guess, learn from each other.
